Lenny Breau – Georgia Transcription

An amazing performance by Lenny Breau of Georgia, from the Canadian CBC’s show ‘A Touch of Jazz’ in 1961. This is without a doubt one of my favourite performances – everything he plays is concise, considered and cleanly delivered. In spite of being recorded for TV, he’s still taking risks and pushing himself. On edge. Check out the beautiful ascending voicings at 1:28 for example. Again – the only flaw with this is that it’s just too short! Just 2 & a half choruses with a nice bluesy coda… And that bridge – that’s the art of interpretation right there.

A great analysis of this performance by Greg Stone can be found at https://docs.google.com/document/d/1H1P6t5jK0qeTQ76Zvx5rF2xo4JiRZ5pBuTJFgEcrzrw/edit?hl=en_US&pli=1.

Next up – Moon River – Bill Frisell

Jim Mullen – When I Fall In Love Transcription

A fantastic 5/4 version of When I Fall In Love, from ‘Make Believe’ by the Jim Mullen Organ Trio ft. Stan Sulzmann. A great album, grooving throughout, it’s a must-have. Scottish monster Jim Mullen nails it in this solo (if only there were more choruses!). Check it out!

Next up – Georgia – Lenny Breau – check out the video here:

Enjoy!

Bill Evans – All The Things You Are (Piano only) Transcription

Here’s version 2 of Bill Evans’ solo on All The Things You Are, minus the Bass part. I’ve opted to keep both piano staves in treble (being a guitarist myself – reading chords are a bastard in treble clef, let alone in bass clef!). The solo can be found on Track 8, Disc 11 of the Complete Riverside Recordings compilation, or on the original album “Bill Evans Trio Live at Shelley’s Manne-Hole” (1963). It features Chuck Israels on Bass and Larry Bunker on Drums.

Next up – After You’ve Gone – Joe Pass (full transcription)

Enjoy!
